Michigan Good Food Fund Technical Assistance Providers
The Michigan Good Food Fund is a statewide loan fund that supports good food entrepreneurs working to increase access to healthy food and spark economic opportunity in places that need it most.
Launched in 2015, the fund offers financing and business assistance to good food enterprises that grow, process, distribute, and sell healthy food that reaches those who need it most.
Supported projects are increasing access to healthy food, improving the health of children and families across Michigan, and sparking economic development and job creation in the communities that need it the most.
The MSU Center for Regional Food Systems leads business assistance and pipeline development for agricultural production, aggregation and distribution, as well as processing projects. CRFS is one of three partner organizations that facilitate the core functions of the MGFF. The others are:
- Fair Food Network, a Michigan-based national nonprofit committed to pioneering solutions that support farmers, strengthen local economies, and increase access to healthy food, leads outreach and communications. It also provides business assistance and pipeline development for retail and small-batch processing projects.
- W.K. Kellogg Foundation is one of the fund’s supporters and investors. It has made commitments in the form of grants, program-related investments, and mission-driven investments across the capitalization structure.
Many other partners were involved in the development of the MGFF.
Beginning in 2020, a collaborative project supported by the Center for Regional Food Systems, Michigan Good Food Fund, and MSU Product Center will build upon existing partnerships to better connect food and farm entrepreneurs in Southwest Michigan and the Upper Peninsula with the resources they need to help their businesses thrive.
