Many Michigan communities are facing challenges in meeting their housing needs and goals as shown by Michigan’s Statewide Housing Plan. Among the causes of current housing challenges and inequality is the legacy of redline mapping, in which the U.S. federal government institutionalized discriminatory practices that created wealth in housing for some and not others, and which still affects housing inequality today.
This free 60-minute webinar will cover:
- History of redlining and other exclusionary policies, with Michigan examples
- The impact of those historic and racist practices on today’s communities
- Tools for communities to work toward more equitable land use policies
- Additional resources, including a website with more details on redlining in Michigan and details on other MSU Extension programs and housing partnerships.
