1921 – One of the first mosques in the USA was constructed in Highland Park, Michigan.

1807 – Treaty of Detroit between the United States and the Odawa (Ottawa), Ojibwe (Chippewa), Wyandot and Potawatomi nations.

1839 – First racially integrated school in Michigan.

1963 – Walk for freedom with 125k people taking part in the largest demonstration to date.

1797 – Sojourner Truth is born. American abolitionist for civil rights and women’s rights. Spent much of her life in Michigan.

1836 – Michigan anti-slavery society founded.

1919 – Women in Michigan gain the right to vote.

2002 – First women governor in Michigan.

1973 – Charles Diggs became the first African American elected to Congress from Michigan.
