Oliver Gomez
Oliver Gomez is the Community Engagement Project Coordinator of the National Charrette Institute, where he assists and facilitates community engagement initiatives. He’s an LGBTQIA+ Latinx architect and urban planner from the Dominican Republic. Before joining Michigan State University, he held various technical and leadership roles in the transportation field, which allowed him to work on several projects, including sustainable mobility international workshops with academic institutions from Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, the United States, Chile, Argentina, and Spain, as well as evaluations of urban mobility, tactical urbanism, and accessible intersections. Moreover, he was part of the team that pioneered the Dominican version of the European Mobility Week, titled “National Week of Sustainable Mobility” and collaborated on the first Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan for the Dominican Republic. In Michigan, Oliver has researched H-2A temporary agricultural workers’ housing standards in rural areas of the state for the past two years with Latinx communities. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo, a Master’s degree in Planning and Design of Sustainable Urban Infrastructures from Universidad Isabel I, and a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Michigan State University. Oliver’s interest in planning has led him to pursue a Ph.D. in Planning, Design, and Construction at Michigan State University.
