Nahian is a Ph.D. candidate specializing in Development Economics in the Department of Agricultural, Food, and Resource Economics (AFRE) at Michigan State University. His research centers on critical development issues, including poverty, technology adoption, social networks, and agricultural value chains in countries like Bangladesh, Tanzania, and Kenya. His collaborative research has been published in reputable journals such as the Applied Economic Perspectives and Policy and the Journal of Development Studies.
Nahian brings extensive field research experience, having conducted and analyzed household and enterprise surveys in developing country contexts. At MSU, he has worked on the SARA-KEA project that aimed to provide learning and analytical support to the U.S. government's Feed the Future activities in Kenya and East Africa (KEA) region implemented under the auspices of USAID country and regional offices. He has also worked with the Feed the Future's Global Biotech Potato Partnership (GBPP) to prepare situational reports on Bangladesh and Kenya.
Before starting his graduate studies, he spent three and a half years working with the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) in Bangladesh.
Born and raised in Bangladesh, Nahian is passionate about economic research and frequently writes blogs and newspaper articles on political-economic issues. He is fluent in Bangla and English, with a beginner’s knowledge of French. He enjoys making complex topics accessible.
