Working in food relief for more than two decades, I’m an advocate for a hunger-free community and supportive of an accessible, effective emergency food network that is centered in a variety of healthy options, informed by the recipient and equitable across neighborhoods. More work is needed to break through social determinants in health disparities for all Americans and ensuring there’s a vibrant, accessible food system is a part of that solution. Exploring the food supply through facets of production, manufacturing, retail, affordability and accessibility sharpens the community environment and can be the catalyst for changes in health outcomes and overall food security.
