Ian Wyman, Ph.D., is originally from Nova Scotia, Canada and received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry degree at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Following his Bachelor of Science degree, he completed a Master of Science degree in Inorganic Chemistry at St. Francis Xavier University under the supervision of Prof. Manuel Aquino. This research was focused on the preparation of diruthenium tetracarboxylates, and their directed disassembly upon reaction with diphosphine ligands Subsequently, he received a Ph.D. degree from the Department of Chemistry Queen’s University (Kingston, Ontario, Canada) which was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Donal Macartney. His Ph.D. research focused on host-guest chemistry, utilizing cucurbit[7]uril (often abbreviated as CB[7]) as a host molecule. In particular, Ian investigated CB[7] as a host encapsulating various guest molecules, including organic solvents, local anaesthetics, pyridine-bearing guests, as well as succinylcholine and acetylcholinesterase inhibitors.

Before joining the Sustainable Materials group led by Prof. Muhammad Rabnawaz, Ian has worked as a postdoctoral researcher and research associate for Prof. Guojun Liu at Queen’s University, exploring block copolymer chemistry and polymer-based coatings. Ian’s research interests spans various disciplines include polymer chemistry, inorganic chemistry, supramolecular chemistry, self-assembly, coatings, sustainable packaging, and materials science.
