Carly Gomez, Ph.D.
Biography
Carly Gomez is a postdoctoral researcher with projects in the risk modeling lab, and Dr. Bradley Marks’s food safety lab. Her research focuses on risk assessment, risk trade-offs, decision analysis, and risk communication, for both microbial and chemical hazards. Specifically, she is currently working on dose-response modeling for drinking water disinfection byproducts (DBPs), risk tradeoffs for DBPs and opportunistic pathogens in drinking water, and decision analysis for economic valuation of food safety technology investments. Carly also has had diverse internship experiences in food and biotechnology process engineering, food safety communication, and sustainability in health systems.
Research
Carly’s research interests lie at the nexus of risk assessment and decision modeling, public health, and risk communication. Specifically, she has investigated various critical areas, including food safety diets in cancer patients, economic valuation of risk reduction for industry food safety investments, and health effects associated with disinfection byproducts in drinking water. The goal of these works is to enhance food and water safety guidelines, improve communication strategies, and ultimately contribute to better public health outcomes.
