Anthony Johnson (Red Lake Anishinaabe) joined MSU Extension as a Community Nutrition Instructor (CNI) in December of 2024. As a CNI, Anthony provides nutrition and physical activity education across Keweenaw, Houghton, and Baraga counties. He blends hands-on cooking demonstrations, culturally relevant nutrition information, direct education and policy, systems, and environmental (PSE) coaching. He seeks to address systemic barriers to health equity and expand access to traditional and nutritious foods for SNAP-Ed eligible audiences.

Prior to joining MSU Extension, Anthony built an Indigenous Foods Café in Seattle—where he managed all operations—ranging from marketing to menu development and kitchen operations. He has also worked in financial analysis and consulting roles, where he co-led initiatives focused on environmental sustainability and nonprofit financial management.

Anthony holds a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management. In his free time, he loves to hunt big game out West, read, exercise, cook, and spend time with his fiancé—Shelbie.
