PRCI workshop on addressing gender in value chain studies
New PRCI core center technical training in value chain analysis series focused on gender
The Innovation Lab for Food Security Policy Research, Capacity and Influence (PRCI) and Kasetsart University (KU) hosted a third training for PRCI country partners as part ongoing series on value chain analysis. These trainings are part of the core center training program. The first training focused on developing cassava value chain analysis proposals, while the second training focused on research methods for value chain analysis. The third training, on May 10, reviewed how and why gender analysis should be incorporated into value chain studies. This training led participants through why gender is an important topic in value chain studies, shared resources, techniques, and tools for including gender in value chain analysis, and explained how pro-WEAI can be used on market inclusion. There were four presentations on these topics:
- Addressing Gender in Value Chain Studies by Elizabeth Bryan and Ruth Meinzen-Dick, International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI)
- Using pro-WEAI for Market Inclusion in Value Chain Analysis: Examples from Bangladesh and the Philippines by Agnes R. Quisumbing
- Tools and methods for gender research and integration in agricultural value chain, market, and entrepreneurship projects by Jennifer Twyman and Kate Ambler
- Potential for Women’s Empowerment Along Tanzania’s Cashew Value Chain by Aika Aku, Zena Mpenda, Venance Mpunde, Elizabeth Bryan, and David Mather
The complete workshop can be found here as a module in the PRCI core center trainings. It contains a link to the video recording of the training, along with PDFs of all four slide presentations.
