FCCP Awarded Funding to Develop and Implement Climate Smart Forestry Practices Across the US
The Forest Carbon and Climate Program was awarded funding to support the develop and implementation of climate smart forestry practices across the U.S. led by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative.
Led by partners, Sustainable Forestry Initiatives, FCCP along with American Forests were awarded over $5 million from the USDA Forest Service to develop climate-informed and data-driven forestry practices to enhance forest management and resilience. Additionally, the Doris Duke Foundation is investing another $800,000 in this collaborative effort to continue the ongoing work to build healthier and more resilient forests in support of rural economies and communities.
Throughout the five-year project, partners will work with landscape-scale forest landowners, such as indigenous entities and private companies, to implement practices that reduce emissions through advanced forest assessment, management, diversification, and protection. This project is expected to reach over 12,000 acres to enhance the carbon sink, protect currently stored carbon, and reduce sources of carbon emissions from the forest sector.
