Student Achievements
Through its 4.5-year award from USAID, the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Legume Systems Research supports capacity building in the countries in which our projects are active, believing that graduate student training that the research capacity of scientists in developing countries. This improved research capacity then further contributes to the long-term agricultural expertise that positively impacts people and communities.
Beginning this year (2014) the Communications Office in the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Legume Systems Research plans to highlight the work of its many graduate students. One of the graduate students supported through the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Legume Systems Research is Kelvin Kamfwa, a doctoral student in the Plant Breeding, Genetics and Biotechnology Program at Michigan State University. Under the guidance of Jim Kelly, Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Legume Systems Research PI and University Distinguished Professor, Plant, Soil and Microbial Sciences, MSU, Kamfwa researches the genetics of biological nitrogen fixation in dry beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.).
