About IFLR

The MSU Institute for Food Laws & Regulations is led by faculty with extensive backgrounds in food laws, regulations, and policy. Most faculty members hold law degrees and have rich teaching experience, both in-person and online. Their expertise spans across academia, industry, and government, offering students practical and globally-informed insights.

Our programs are fully online, asynchronous graduate-level education tailored to working professionals in the food industry. Students can pursue certificates in U.S. or International Food Law or complete a Master of Science in Food Regulatory Affairs. The program is designed for flexibility, allowing professionals to balance work and study by enrolling in one or two courses per semester. Accredited through MSU, the courses emphasize sustained, in-depth learning and practical application, making them ideal for those already navigating complex regulatory environments in their jobs.

The program attracts a diverse student body from more than 100 countries, enriching discussions with global perspectives. Around 65% of students are employed in private industry, 20% work for government entities such as the FDA, USDA, and international bodies like the WHO and EU, and 15% are full-time students. Participants hold a wide array of professional titles—from food safety specialists and regulatory analysts to attorneys, senior policy advisors, and executives—highlighting the program’s relevance across multiple sectors of the food industry.
