PURPOSE
Working around grain bins and manure pits can result in both fatal and nonfatal injuries. Understanding how to safely work in these environments is the purpose for this grain bin and manure pit safety training.
DESCRIPTION
Personnel from the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety (NECAS) will provide the safety training.
Manure pit safety training: This program is intended for commercial manure applicators, farm employees who apply manure, manure application equipment dealers, and agriculture business owners. The major focus of the program is on safety in confined space work areas. At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will:
- Be able to identify hazards associated with confined space work
- Understand the process for confined space entry and lock out procedures
- Know where to look for OSHA references and resources related to confined space entry in the confinement industry
Grain bin safety training program: This program is intended for co-ops, farm operators, employees, and agriculture business owners. The major focus of the program is on safety in confined space work areas. At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will:
- Be able to identify hazards associated with confined space work
- Understand the process for confined space entry and lock out/ tag out procedures.
- Understand monitoring the air quality in a confined space
- Understand the harness that need to be worn during an entry
- Understand the job responsibilities of a confined space attendant
- Know where to look for OSHA references and resources related to confined space entry in the grain industry
- Perform a grain bin entry
- Understand the rescue procedures for someone trapped in grain
