Robin Dando is an Associate Professor in Cornell University’s Department of Food Science. Robin obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Physics and Nanotechnology in the UK, before completing his PhD in Physics in the US. Following this, he spent a little over 4 years in a postdoctoral role in the Department of Physiology at the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine, working on the neuroscience of the taste system. His lab at Cornell studies both the basic biology of taste, and humans’ sensory responses to food. His work has resulted in many published works in journals such as Nature Medicine, PLoS Biology and Food Quality and Preference, and is also a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Food Science. Robin serves as the director of the Cornell Sensory Evaluation Group, which test the sensory properties and consumer appeal of foods for the food industry, and he also teaches several classes on the senses, and our perception of foods. He and his work have been featured in outlets such as The Atlantic, Time Magazine, National Geographic, the Washington Post, and the Today Show.
