What is the Electrical Technology Certification Program?
Electrical Technology is an electrical apprenticeship training program with an emphasis on residential, agricultural, commercial, and 
industrial wiring.
The program combines fifteen months of classroom, lab, and on-the-job training. Students will learn the latest National Electrical Code, electrical fundamentals, various electrical installations, and various electrical operations in housing, agriculture and industry. These skills will be used to become a licensed journey electrician through the State of Michigan.
Students successfully completing the requirements (48 credits) of the Electrical Technology program receive a Certificate from the Institute of Agricultural Technology and are eligible to participate in the annual graduation ceremony of the Institute of Agricultural Technology.
The program is approved by the US Department of Labor, Office of Apprenticeship and Training and by the Electrical Administrative Board, Bureau of Construction Codes, and State of Michigan.

Orientation
All students new to Michigan State University must go through an orientation program. Orientation generally occurs in the summer, however there is a short orientation session directly at the beginning of the fall semester. The Electrical Technology program also runs its own orientation program which compliments the universities program. This program runs jointly with the Office of New Student Programs.
Orientation for the ET program is only handled through the Institute of Agricultural Technology. The Agricultural Technology Orientation program is only available for Agricultural Technology students and it will allow the students to meet with their advisor, register for fall semester classes, as well as learn about the program, and meet other ET students. This orientation will include aspects on student life, general academics, and the other topics which are covered in the Freshman and Transfer Orientation programs presented to all students.
Cost, Tuition and Financial Aid
The tuition for IAT certificate programs is the same tuition rate for all other undergraduate MSU courses. The current tuition information can be found at the Tuition and Fees page on the MSU website. Some courses may have additional expenses for supplies, labs, and/or field trips.
The Electrical Technology Certificate program can be as short as 15 months in length. The overall financial investment is less and the overall time commitment is less than a typical 4 year degree. Graduates will be on their way to employment in a shorter time frame than students pursuing a bachelors degree. Electrical Technology students are eligible for scholarships and should contact their program coordinator/advisor about financial aid opportunities.
