On April 27, 2023, a validation event was conducted for the "Research project to support Africa’s micro small and medium enterprises to deliver affordable, safe, and nutritious food" (RSM2SNF). This hybrid event featured in-person participation in Zaria, Kaduna State, and Ibadan, Oyo State, as well as online attendance, gathering 55 stakeholders from the agrifood sector.
The event, led by early career scholars, began with a welcome speech from Dr. Oyinkan Tasie, emphasizing the importance of validation as part of the RSM2SNF project’s knowledge transfer goals. Mr. Olunuga and Mr. Yau Rabiu presented key findings related to fish and vegetable (including tomatoes) value chains. The presentations covered topics such as the growing fish subsector driven by increased demand, the challenges in the fish value chain (such as reliance on imported products), and food safety issues at different stages of vegetable handling.
Two discussants, including members of the project's National Advisory Committee (NAC), provided their reflections on the findings, connecting them to their areas of expertise. Following the presentations, Dr. Ayala Wineman led an icebreaker session exploring participants’ market preferences. A facilitated discussion session allowed attendees in Zaria and Ibadan to share their insights on the findings, with their feedback contributing to the final synthesized RR report.
