Identifying and Mitigating Carbon Dioxide-Related Apple Internal Browning
DOWNLOADJuly 17, 2024 - David Rudell, USDA-ARS
The symptoms and factors affecting carbon dioxide injury of apple are discussed. These include 1-MCP use, harvest maturity, storage duration and O2 levels in the CA storage. The ability of diphenylamine to inhibit injury on a number of cultivars is presented. Mitigation strategies include CO2 scrubbing, slaked lime, DPA, delayed CA storage, and storage temperature.
