On June 20, RSM2SNF held a stakeholder meeting focused on Market Metrics and Market Indicator tracking for Nigerian food markets, concentrating on leafy vegetables, tomatoes, and fish. The event took place at the University of Ibadan’s Center for Sustainable Development and included both in-person and online participants, totaling around 24 attendees. The participants consisted of traders from Shasha, Bodija, and Itamerin markets, government representatives, researchers, and academics involved in the value chains of the project’s focus products.
The session began with an opening prayer, followed by welcome remarks from the project management assistant and an introduction by the principal investigator. The principal investigator expressed gratitude to the participants and highlighted the project's objective to move beyond traditional research by co-creating solutions for challenges faced by MSMEs. She stressed the importance of periodically sharing research findings with stakeholders to foster evidence-based decision-making and operational improvements.
Following the introduction, the stakeholder engagement lead facilitated a session for participants to introduce themselves, promoting effective collaboration. The agricultural economics lead, along with the gender lead, presented key findings from market study data, emphasizing the use of evidence to improve market practices.
Key insights from the engagement included the need for proper record-keeping for effective planning, market stalls being numbered for better organization, and improved waste disposal practices since the project team’s initial visits. The event concluded with remarks from a government representative from the Oyo State Agricultural Development Agency (OYSADA), emphasizing the significance of public-private collaboration in market development.
