Tariq Abdelhamid
Affiliated Programs/Initiatives/Projects:
After working as a Construction Project Scheduler/Manager, and as a Lean Production subject matter expert and Project Management Specialist at Ford Motor Company, Tariq Abdelhamid joined the Construction Management Program in the School of Planning, Design and Construction at Michigan State University. He teaches classes in Lean Construction; Project Scheduling, and Construction Operations Simulation; and Construction Ergonomics. Trained by Greg Howell and Glenn Ballard (founders of the Lean Construction Institute (LCI), USA), Abdelhamid specializes in the area of Lean Construction, and serves as chairperson of the LCI Academic Forum, since 2002, and editor of the Lean Construction Journal, since its inception in 2003. He was a member of the first AGC Lean Construction Steering Committee, and he was also involved as a subject matter expert and content developer in the Associated General Contractors of America ongoing effort to develop a comprehensive Lean Construction Education Program. At MSU, Abdelhamid worked with the MSU Infrastructure Planning and Facilities group and the Residential and Hospitality Services division on a three-year process improvement initiative titled Excellence in Campus Operations and Services. He served as a Lean/IPD coach for the Shaw Hall Dining Facility at MSU. Abdelhamid is currently advising the MSUResidential and Hospitality Services division on a two-year Integrated Program Organization initiative. He also advises the ReAlignment Group, Enovio Consulting and Gemba Kaizen Consulting on Lean Construction and Integrated Lean Project Delivery engagements with design and construction teams on projects of any budget size. Abdelhamid earned a Doctor of Philosophy in civil engineering-construction engineering and management from the University of Michigan. He holds two Master’s degrees in industrial and operations engineering, and construction engineering and management from U-M. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Alexandria University in Alexandria, Egypt.
