Julie Kuruvilla
Julie was born and raised in Michigan to immigrant parents from Kerala, India. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Packaging from Michigan State University in 2002 and received a Certificate in Food Science from Rutgers in 2019.
Julie started her packaging career in the automotive industry, as a Packaging Engineer and Quality Engineer, at a Chicago based company. She then moved on to work at Design Pac, Inc. to return to consumer facing packaging innovation & design. To further her interaction with consumer experiences and be closer to family, she then moved to New Jersey and joined the Snacks Division of Kraft Foods. Despite a company spin-off, she continued her career with Mondelēz International and worked on brands such as Ritz, Oreo, Sour Patch Kids, Trident, Philadelphia, and Tang. While the majority of her career has been Packaging driven at Mondelez, she expanded scope into Product and Process R&D to align with her passion for holistic R&D driven strategy.
Julie lives in Northern New Jersey with her husband, Aby, and daughter, Aliyah. She is a Jersey Girl that will always bleed Green! In her free time, she loves to rediscover the world through the eyes of her miracle baby girl and volunteering at her local church.
Julie joined the Board late 2020 and views board service as one of the most rewarding ways to give back to the University that paved the path for her successful career. She is inspired to positively impact & improve the community by sharing her journey of breaking (sometimes hitting) societal & cultural barriers. She loves contributing to the students, staff, and overall Spartan family. Go Green!
