As a HUD certified counseling agency, MSU Extension helps potential, current and future home buyers/renters to understand the complex home buyer/renter process and learn the true costs of responsible homeownership.
Foreclosure Prevention
Foreclosure proceeds not only impact the financial health of individuals but weighs on people’s mental health. Foreclosed properties also negatively impact the sense of community and can drag down nearby property values. MSU Extension delivers triage, education and one-on-one counseling to homeowners who are facing mortgage and/or property tax foreclosure on 100% homestead properties. Participants come away with a better understanding of their financial and housing situation, the foreclosure process and timeline, what their options are to prevent the loss of their home and what community resources are available to them. MSU Extension outlines actionable steps that allow many people to return to an affordable and sustainable housing situation.
