MSU Extension and AgBioResearch State Advisory Council Nomination Process
The MSU Extension and AgBioResearch directors review nominations and appoint new Council members to fill vacant openings.
Potential Council members should first review responsibilities and expectations in the Operational Guidelines and Member's Commitment. They will then need to complete a State Advisory Council application.
Additionally, as a MSU Extension volunteer, an application to serve as a Silver volunteer needs to be completed via MSU Extension Volunteer Central. MSU Extension has high standards for screening and selecting the volunteers who represent us. Volunteers are valued members of MSU Extension programs across the state, and contribute their skills, talents, time and experience to strengthen and support our mission. Volunteers who serve on our boards, councils and committees are carefully screened through the Volunteer Selection Process to provide safe programming and meeting environments for all of our participants, volunteers and staff. The Volunteer Selection Process includes an application, state and national criminal history checks, sex offender registry check and agreement to abide by the MSU Extension Volunteer Code of Conduct. There is no charge for any part of this process. Applicants should be aware that re-screening occurs every six months for sexual offender checks and every 12 months for criminal history checks. Notification is sent via email once a year requesting a volunteer to login to Volunteer Central to confirm or update contact information, consent to the annual background checks and complete the MSU Extension Code of Conduct.
If you are already an active MSU Extension volunteer who has completed the Volunteer Selection Process and stayed current with annual background check requirements, you do not need to apply again.
