Michigan State University Extension’s 2025 Field Crops Virtual Breakfast Series continues Thursday, April 10, with a discussion on corn and soybean planting. Manni Singh, Michigan State University (MSU) Extension cropping systems agronomist, will discuss making profitable corn and soybean planting decisions. Singh will provide research-based recommendations regarding planting date for corn versus soybean; the risks and benefits of early soybean planting; what management changes should be considered based on planting time; adjusting for low germ test seed; importance of seed placement accuracy; and seeding rates and replant decisions. Immediately following the discussion on early season weed control, Extension climatologist Jeff Andresen will give a weekly weather report.

One restricted use pesticide (RUP) credit (1a, Comm Core, Priv Core) and one certified crop adviser (CCA) continuing education credit (1 CM) are available for this session. Only participants who tune into the live broadcast at 7 a.m. are eligible to receive RUP and CCA credits. Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development RUP credits are only available to Michigan residents.
