He was invited by Tom Burke, Deputy Assistant Administrator and EPA Science Advisor, to develop and deliver a workshop or “bootcamp” on the integration of behavioral and social sciences in environmental policy and management at the EPA’s Office of Research and Development. The workshop was held October 4-5, 2016 at the EPA’s campus at Research Triangle Park, NC. The workshop involved more than 40 scientists in attendance, and over 200 Agency staff members who participated via webinar. The workshop involved an overview of social science followed by case studies and small group discussions about ideas for how EPA scientists could integrate tools and approaches from the behavioral and social sciences in their regional research laboratories and national research programs. This is the first of several activities that Dr. Richardson and his colleagues are leading in support of the EPA’s effort to integrate social science in its research programs.
