Richard Price joins MSU Extension as a conservation systems educator
Price will focus on using precision technologies to promote and benefit increased productivity and profitability in Michigan’s diverse agricultural landscape.
I grew up on a small cash crop farm in Saginaw County that produced corn, soybeans, wheat, sugar beets and dry beans. After high school, I attended MSU to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Crop and Soil Sciences and graduated in 2006. I worked in the agriculture industry at Monsanto Company for four years before returning to MSU to work as a research assistant since 2011.
Since 2016, I began working in collaboration with Bruno Basso’s Digital Agriculture Lab in the College of Natural Science. My research interests are centered on leveraging digital technologies in precision agriculture to monitor and analyze trends in spatial and temporal variability of plant and soil health, crop yields and overall resilience of agricultural systems. Through MSU Extension, I aim to develop impactful and effective educational programming that promotes enhanced environmental stewardship, benefiting both farmers and the environment.
I maintain a Michigan Class A commercial driver’s license and am a certified remote pilot and commercial drone operator, ready to utilize these whenever the opportunity arises. I am excited about this new role, where I will help navigate the complex systems and opportunities that precision agriculture offers.
I am based out of the Ingham County MSU Extension office but cover the entire state as a MSU Extension conservation systems educator.
