Open Position: Office/Communications Assistant (student)

The School of Planning, Design and Construction seeks a currently enrolled student to assistant the main office and communications staff.

Job Summary: The MSU School of Planning, Design and Construction (SPDC) seeks an undergraduate student to assist with communications needs and general office duties. Tasks will include graphic design, content creation/management, information gathering and article writing, and information/data retention, organization, and archiving. This position reports to the SPDC Communications Coordinator.  

 

Hours/Compensation: Up to 20 hours/week; flexible with class schedule. The base wage is $13.50/hour (experience considered).

Required Qualifications: 

  • Michigan State undergrad student enrolled in current and/or upcoming semester.  
  • High work ethic, self-starter, detail-oriented, enthusiastic and innovative. 
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to meet deadlines, with flexibility to adjust to evolving priorities. 
  • A working knowledge in all or some of the following areas:  
  • Posting on and monitoring social media. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). 
  • An eye for design/layout and ability to create content accordingly (Adobe Creative Cloud preferred). 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • A working knowledge in all or some of the following areas:  
  • Information gathering and article writing. 
  • Film, videography, and/or photography. 
  • Google and social media analytics. 

 

Potential Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Design and layout graphics/promotional materials. 
  • Update website content via the school’s Content Management System.  
  • Create e-mail campaigns via Constant Contact. 
  • Post to social media accounts and help plan the monthly social media calendar. 
  • Gather information and draft articles relating to SPDC’s research and outreach priorities. 
  • Attend/participate in communications-related projects, meetings and events, as requested. 
  • Contribute to the cooperative environment at SPDC. 
  • Other office duties as needed, such as record keeping, stuffing envelopes/folders, event support, customer service, etc. 
  • Assist SPDC’s Communications Coordinator and other office staff as requested.
