New spotted lanternfly bulletin for Michigan homeowners and residents

This bulletin provides an overview of spotted lanternfly to help residents prepare as this invasive insect spreads in Michigan.

Spotted lanternfly (Lycorma delicatula), an invasive insect native to China, has become established in at least 17 eastern states since it was discovered in Pennsylvania in 2014. In 2022, spotted lanternfly was detected in an area of Oakland County, Michigan. New infestations were recently identified in other areas of southeast Michigan. Information in the new bulletin, “Spotted Lanternfly – A Guide for Homeowners and Residents in Michigan,” will help residents identify and manage spotted lanternfly in residential landscapes.
