Matchett received a master’s degree in agricultural and Extension education and a bachelor’s degree in agricultural education from Michigan State University (MSU). As a student, Matchett participated in a Food, Agriculture and Environmental Systems overseas study in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and England.

Matchett was recognized by the Michigan Farm Bureau as the 2012 Educator of the Year and received a 2012 Appreciation Award from the Michigan Alliance for Environmental and Outdoor Education. In 2010, he was recognized as a key partner by Michigan State University Extension.

“I was drawn to the MSU IAT program because of the unique educational opportunities the program offers students across Michigan,” he said.  “I am excited to work with our students and with the agriculture industry to continue to provide a rigorous and rewarding academic program that will prepare our students to be top-notch employees for the agricultural industry.”

Matchett said he is excited to see the MSU programs in Traverse City become even more robust than they are today.

“MSU’s collaboration with Northwestern Michigan College and other community colleges in northwest Michigan creates opportunities for students that are found in few other places in Michigan. I am excited to be a part of such a unique collaboration,” he said.

Matchett will be based in the Northwestern Michigan College University Center at 220 Dendrinos Dr., Suite 203, Traverse City, MI 49684. He can be contacted at 231-995-1719 or matchet4@msu.edu
