MSU Horticulture Club slates spring show and sale

EmailSpring has sprung! The Michigan State University (MSU) Horticulture Club's annual spring show and plant sale is slated for April 20-21 at the Plant and Soil Sciences Building.
Spring has sprung! The Michigan State University (MSU) Horticulture Club’s annual spring show and plant sale is slated for April 20-21 at the Plant and Soil Sciences Building (at the corner of Bogue and Wilson avenues on campus).
This year’s show, entitled “Sensory Overload,” will take place from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. April 20 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 21.
The funds raised at the plant sale will allow students to participate in numerous community service projects, including a student-designed sensory garden installed and maintained at the Heartwood School in Mason, Mich.
For the second consecutive year, the club has sent several volunteers to plant trees with the Greening of Detroit project, which is replacing trees lost to Dutch elm disease and emerald ash borer along Detroit’s residential roadsides.
In addition, students will have the opportunity to attend industry conferences including the Green Industry Conference (GIC), the Mid-American Horticultural Career Fair and Trade show and the Great Lakes Trade Expo (GLTE), where they will network with others in the industry.
The most important event of the year, PLANET Student Career Days, is a national competition in which more than 60 schools participate. Last year, Michigan State placed fourth in the country. Travel to this event is largely funded by the spring show.
These activities allow students to apply what they’ve learned in class, learn more about the industry, network with professionals, seek job opportunities and give back to the community.
