Monika Dziuba awarded Nick Bellows Scholarship by the Michigan Dairy Memorial and Scholarship Foundation
Award honors former CEO of United Dairy Industry of Michigan
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Monika Dziuba of Riverview, Mich., was chosen as the 2018-19 recipient of the Nick Bellows Scholarship from the Michigan Dairy Memorial and Scholarship Foundation (MDMSF) at Michigan State University (MSU). The $4,000 scholarship is named in honor of Nick Bellows, the former chief executive officer of the United Dairy Industry of Michigan (UDIM). This award is presented to an MSU student with a career interest in dairy promotions.
Dziuba was selected to receive the scholarship because of her outstanding academic achievements, proven leadership abilities, and passion for the dairy industry.
A 2019 MSU animal science graduate, Dziuba credits this interest and passion for the dairy industry to experiencing her grandparents’ dairy farm in Poland as a youth.
“Growing up originally in a suburban area, I did not have access to resources that would help me to expand my interest in the dairy industry,” Dziuba said. “However, attending MSU gave me my first opportunities to make this dream and passion a reality. I was able to take classes and find experiences that helped me to become as knowledgeable, involved, and passionate about dairy farming as I am today.”
Dziuba pursued every dairy-related experience she encountered during her undergraduate years at MSU. From co-authoring scientific research publications to earning second place team honors in the MSU Dairy Challenge, she has a complete understanding of the dairy industry because of these extensive opportunities.
Dziuba will begin veterinary school at MSU this fall while also pursuing a Master of Science degree in food safety. This approach will prepare her to become a production animal veterinarian with a focus on dairy cattle, in addition to educating the growing consumer market about food safety. She strongly believes that as a veterinarian, the firsthand information she shares with her clients and consumers about agriculture has the ability to reach and impact the most people.
The Nick Bellows Scholarship was established in 2011 by the UDIM board of directors and its staff members to recognize Bellows for his two and a half decades of commitment and dedication as the organization’s CEO.
The Michigan Dairy Memorial and Scholarship Foundation awarded $100,000 in scholarships to 25 MSU students pursuing dairy industry-related programs of study for the 2018-19 academic year.
