Michigan honey bee veterinarians contact list
Find a veterinarian near you who is eager to provide veterinary care for Michigan honey bees.
Honey bee colonies need to be healthy and strong in population to adequately pollinate crops or to make a honey crop. When honey bee colonies become sick with bacterial diseases, beekeepers can use antibiotics to control disease. Changes to the federal code require beekeepers work with a veterinarian to access antibiotics for their bees. Michigan State University has been working to train honey bee veterinarians in the state so they understand honey bees and the beekeeping industry and are comfortable working with beekeepers who need their help keeping their colonies healthy.
Michigan State University’s honey bee team has developed a contact list for Michigan veterinarians who are eager to work with beekeepers. These veterinarians, all licensed in Michigan, have expressed interest in supporting beekeepers. The contact list provides their contact information and the counties they cover. Beekeepers seeking veterinary assistance for their bees should contact the listed veterinarians directly for further information.
If beekeepers are already working with a vet who is not listed but may be interested in working with bees or taking beekeeping clients, they should contact the Michigan State University honey bee team at honeybees@msu.edu.
