Videos are available that explain important details and items to consider for 2025 crop insurance decisions for apples, cherries and blueberries.
Have you heard of Enterprise Units for crop insurance, but could use a better explanation? Or perhaps you have a basic idea of the new blueberry options, but more details would be helpful. If so, our “Insurance Talks with Phil and Corey – 2025 updates” videos should be just right for you. In these videos Phil Preston and Corey Blumerick of Greenstone Farm Credit Services sit down with Chris Bardenhagen to explain important details and items to consider for 2025 crop insurance decisions. Many fruit growers will find these videos helpful as they prepare for the November 20 sales closing date.
In the first video, Phil and Corey explain the early, mid and late season units in blueberries and the benefits they provide to growers. They also explain the Enhanced Coverage Option, which is an option that has been recently extended to many fruit crops. They suggest that even if you have looked at ECO in the past for other crops, this is a good time to revisit it anew. For fruit crops in general, it might be worthwhile to at least look into the option under the current program rules. In the second video, Phil and Corey provide a general explanation of how enterprise units work, and how they apply to apple and cherry grower’s policies. They note that the value of enterprise units varies from farm to farm – it works for some growers well but is not a great option for others. They also explain how the Whole Farm Revenue Program can in some cases work in a complimentary way with other fruit policies such as blueberry, cherries or apples.
