Last month, the Kinawa & Chippewa Science Night hosted over 700 participants, with students from grades 5-8, and hosted over twenty organizations from around the mid-Michigan area. The Biosystems Engineering (BE) Club brought a filtration activity to the event, demonstrating how different soil materials filter water.

Introducing young students to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) through hands-on activities is one of the best ways to showcase the curriculums. STEM encourages curiosity, and by using these activities, children can learn about the world around them. Biosystems Engineering (BE) is associated with the STEM interest areas at Michigan State University. STEM careers typically research and analyze the world around us to solve everyday problems. Biosystems Engineering's mission is to apply the principles of engineering and biology to systems involving food, energy, environment, and health.
