2023 Earth Engineers Camp Day 1
Gardening, tie dye and more!!
Welcome to camp! We have a new group of campers who are so excited. Here’s what our Earth Engineers are up to this week.
Wagon Ride
Every Monday our campers get to see our 160-acre farm! They point out all the animals they spot along the way. Also, maybe the campers can answer the famous farm question... What's the difference between hay and straw?
Animal Chores
Our animals deserve all the love and care! Which is why we have our camper do animal chores everyday such as collecting duck and chicken eggs, goat milking, cleaning the rabbit cage and playing with our baby goats.
Tie Dye/parachute
At each camp, campers get a shirt to tie dye! They love creating a cool design that they can wear on Friday. If they have time to spare, they will play with a parachute and bounce plastic balls like popcorn.
Garden time: Harvest/weeding/ watering
It’s a group effort to keep our lovely garden looking nice. We put the campers to work this afternoon, they pulled weeds, harvested veggies and watered our plants!
STEAM: Hurricane House
Campers consider what design choices might be beneficial to a house/human habitat considering the surrounding environmental factors, in this case, a hurricane. They will consider what a hurricane is dangerous to a house. At the end of the week, campers’ houses will be tested in a man-made “hurricane” to see how effective their designs are.
Garden Kitchen: Chickpea salad and garlic-ginger green beans
We got two healthier snacks today, got to eat those veggies! The chickpea salad had mixed reactions, some said it was too spicy (probably because of the garlic) and some loved the salad! For the afternoon snack the AC smelled so yummy from the garlic being cooked for the green beans.
Casting Practice
Campers put their fishing skills to the test and practiced casting before they do it in the pond tomorrow. When we’ve told the kids that they’re going to fish this week, their faces light up and they get so excited!
Camp was so much fun today! Check out more photos from our Earth Engineers here:
