2014 Urban & Regional Planning Practicum Projects Launched
Another spring semester means another round of practicum projects in the Urban & Regional Planning Program at the School of Planning, Design and Construction at Michigan State University (MSU).
Another spring semester means another round of practicum projects in the Urban & Regional Planning Program at the School of Planning, Design and Construction at Michigan State University (MSU). Six groups of undergraduate and graduate students are tackling six projects across Michigan. The final projects will be presented on Friday, April 25, at the MSU Brody Hall Auditorium in East Lansing. Below is a summary of the 2014 practicum projects:
Project: Greater Lansing Food Bank Data Collection and Analysis Project
Summary: Establish practical methodology to assess social, economic and community impacts of community gardening/farming in urban and peri-urban environments in Lansing. Contextualize national studies and research to better understand local impact.
Project: South Cedar Street Sub-Area Plan
Summary: Draft illustrative plan and build-out analysis based on the Design Lansing Comprehensive Plan recommendations for the portion of S. Cedar Street between Holmes and Greenlawn Avenue.
Project: F-RIB Economic Impact Analysis in the Greater Lansing Region
Summary: Lansing Economic Area Partnership (LEAP) will use this study to assist in focusing their economic development efforts around the F-RIB at MSU, as well as the anticipated Niowave development.
Project: Brightmoor Community Marketing Plan
Summary: Brightmoor Alliance is coordinating a neighborhood planning initiative in the Brightmoor neighborhood of Northwest Detroit. This planning process is nearly complete, but support is needed to develop visual marketing materials and an implementation plan for the initiative.
Project: Art Incubator, Makerspace and Green Infrastructure
Summary: Develop a conceptual plan of Makerspace in downtown Benton Harbor and produce a set of GIS data for conservational and recreational lands in Southwest Michigan (Berrien, Cass and Van Buren counties).
Project: Williamston – Sustainability Corridor
Summary: Conduct a feasibility study for a Williamston-area non-motorized riverfront trail with waterway access and linkage to nearby transportation corridors.
