How much will the millage cost me?
The millage will cost the homeowner $0.25 for every $1,000 of taxable home value. For example, if you own a $100,000 home ($50,000 taxable value or SEV), you’ll invest $ 12.50/year in taxes to support the educational programming MSU Extension provides for you, your family and your community.

What does a “yes” vote mean and what does a “no” vote mean?
A YES vote means that Montmorency County residents will continue to fund MSU Extension programs in your communities.

A NO vote means that there will not be county funding to match and secure the university’s investment in the century-long partnership that has brought 4-H and the family well-being, gardening, agriculture and environmental educational programs that have benefitted Montmorency County.

How does Montmorency County funding for MSU Extension work?

MSU Extension is funded by a unique partnership with federal, state and county governments that combine resources to meet the needs of Michigan communities.  The Montmorency County government has asked their constituents to fund the county portion of the MSU Extension partnership by renewing the millage on August 6.

What does the ballot language say? 

Shall the expired, previously authorized tax of .25 mills (25 cents per $1,000.00 of taxable valuation) levied by the County of Montmorency for the purpose of providing funding for 4-H youth development, agriculture, health and nutrition, horticulture, and other services through Michigan State University Extension within Montmorency County be renewed for .25 mills for a period of 6 years (2024-2029 Inclusive)?

This is a renewal of the Millage for Michigan State University Extension Services that expired December 31, 2023. The estimated revenue that will be collected during the first year this millage is authorized and levied is one hundred forty-two thousand, one hundred fifty-two dollars ($142,152.00).
