FlavorFIT Program
FlavorFIT provides nutrition education on hypertension, diabetes, low-vitamin K, and general wellness. Through our cooking classes and resources we empower underserved communities in Muskegon County to make healthier choices and build resilience.
Farm Incubator Program
The Farm Incubator Program offers hands-on training and resources to urban farmers, teaching sustainable techniques and business management. By providing tools, materials, and market access, it empowers local growers to succeed while building inclusivity and strengthening Muskegon County’s food + ag economy.
Synergy Program – Business Incubation Cohort
The Synergy Program is a 10-week cohort empowering underserved farmers and food businesses to achieve retail readiness. Brands receive training in business planning, regulatory compliance, and product development, to create sustainable businesses that drive economic equity and food innovation in Muskegon County.
Muskegon County Food Policy Network
The Muskegon Food Policy Council is a collaborative effort advocating for equitable food policies and increased food access. By engaging stakeholders and community leaders, the council addresses systemic challenges to improve food access, foster sustainability, and drive economic opportunity locally.
ServSafe® Food Manager Certification Training
ServSafe is a food safety training and certification program administered by the National Restaurant Association. This 8-hour course equips food business owners and food workers with food safety knowledge and practices to manage food handling safely and reduce barriers to entry in Muskegon County.
Food Business Consulting
Lakeshore Flavor works with food brands to develop food safety protocols, food quality assurance training programs to prepare businesses across the United States for market entry. While there are commercial kitchens and programs locally, Lakeshore Flavor addresses specific gaps in Muskegon’s food system by supporting marginalized growers and food businesses to focus on access and driving local economic growth.
This study, in partnership with MSU, aimed to understand the barriers in Muskegon County’s food system. By understanding the challenges faced by local and marginalized communities, we can develop solutions that promote fair access to healthy food, economic opportunity, and sustainability for everyone in our area.
