PRIMARY Responsibilities: |
· Reports directly to the Wood Procurement Manager – Grayling. · Helps control and coordinates the raw material flow for the Grayling facility. · Responsible for all certification programs related to wood raw material such as FSC/ECC/ISO/SFI. · Optimizes economy in harvesting operations, quality of materials, reliability of supply and timeliness of delivery. · Supplier/Customer liaison – relationship building, and communication. · Inventory management – supply & delivery, material handling, analysis & reporting. · Finance – support accounting procedures including month-end and year-end. · Knowledge & Compliance – Michigan forest operations knowledge, policies related to buying wood, safety, certifications and SOP’s. · Work key mill contacts to support desired mill recipe to the extent economically responsible. |
Description of Essential duties: |
· Participate in development of quarterly goals and objectives with Wood Procurement Manager. · Expected to travel for meetings/negotiations/operations planning and maintenance throughout Michigan. · Expected to flex time to meet the expectations of the role. · Participate in auditing harvesting operations ensuring in-woods contractors remain compliant with BMP regulations and FSC Chain-of-Custody requirements. · Direct liaison on behalf of Arauco in the resolution of supplier disputes, identifying and resolving supplier or shipment problems, quality issues, contractual compliance, supplier reporting, etc. · Ensure raw material inventory levels are maintained to adequately meet mill operation needs with the goal of providing the most consistent recipe possible working in conjunction with key mill contacts and the wood procurement manager to maintain and manage inventory and address aging of material. · Communication of raw material issues and challenges. · Ability to cover off all duties of the Wood Procurement Manager including wood procurement systems operation, reporting requirements, inventory management, safety policies, etc. · Assist suppliers with cruising timber sales, estimate volume and value. In addition, help suppliers with harvest lines and management plans if necessary. |

Key safety/housekeeping responsibilities: |
· Ensure Harvest contractors and Raw Material Carrier safety orientations, training and compliance are current. · Responsible for ensuring raw material carriers and suppliers maintain the necessary insurance to follow Arauco policies and government laws. · Participate in Safety Training as required. |
Budget/Finance responsibilities: |
· Work with the Wood Procurement Manager to develop periodic forecasting. · Responsible for monthly reporting including cost variance, inventory variance, quality issues, purchases and consumption. · Responsible for optimizing efficiency, building relationships and identifying and acting on opportunities. |
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: |
· Degree in forestry related field and a minimum of 2 year’s experience in wood procurement. · Excellent time management and organizational skills. · Knowledge of purchasing procedures and practices. · Action oriented with high energy, drive and enthusiasm. · Commitment to continuous improvement. · Excellent written and verbal communication skills. · Commitment to meet deadlines. · Proven negotiation skills. · Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations and/or policies and procedures. · Good working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint. · Familiarity with raw material tracking/accounting software platforms. · Successful experience working in a cross-functional team based environment. |
