Lumber Assistant at Sawmill

Hiring Organization: Raven Farm Lumber
Employment type: Part-Time
Job Location: Perry, MI
Application Due Date: February 27, 2025

Help wanted at local small sawmill

Small local salvage sawmill operation, 26 years in the business, looking for part-time helper to assist in our 2 man operation.

Job duties would entail off bearing lumber, stacking lumber, helping deliver lumber. Requirements for the job entail being able to lift heavy items at least 80 pounds frequently for a duration of time and to work in outside weather conditions, but typically sheltered in an unheated barn.

Knowledge and previous experience with tools, chainsaw, and tractor use desirable, but not mandatory.

We have hired numerous other MSU Forestry students in the past and it has worked out well as we are flexible around class schedules.

Pay is terrible at $15 an hour, but if you think of it as an internship type situation, you will be learning more about the inner-workings of a small sawmill operation, including sawing logs, grading logs and lumber, kiln drying lumber, secondary processing of lumber, and finally marketing direct to customers at our various store locations.

We would like someone with an open enough schedule to come help in three and four hour time blocks 2 to 3 times per week during school with the possibility of more work in the summer if interested.  Please contact Raven Farm Lumber, Kelvin Potter owner, 517-927-6798, or Kelvinpot@yahoo.com.
