Job Overview: Horticulture Intern, Historic Estate and Event Venue

We are seeking passionate and motivated Horticulture Interns to assist with the maintenance and enhancement of our historic estate gardens. This internship offers hands-on experience in various aspects of horticulture, in landscape management, plant care, garden restoration and development while supporting the estate’s role as a premiere wedding and event venue. The intern will work closely with our horticulture team to ensure the grounds remain beautiful, welcoming and inspiring.

Key Responsibilities

· Assist with planting, watering, weeding, and general upkeep.

· Maintain flower beds, shrubs, trees and ornamental plantings.

· Monitor plant health, identify pests and diseases.

· Ensure that equipment is well maintained, and horticulture spaces are well organized and clean.

· Help with seasonal planting and garden design projects.

· Support lawn care, mulching and composting efforts.

· Learn about historic property and landscape preservation and best practices in sustainable gardening.

· Ensure gardens and pathways are event-ready, maintaining a clean and picturesque setting.

· Support educational program development and implementation.

· Occasionally assist with event setup as it pertains to the gardens.

Qualifications

· Enrolled in or recently completed a horticulture, landscape management, turfgrass management, landscape architecture, or a related field.

· Passion for plants, gardening and landscape design.

· Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks like digging, bending and kneeling.

· Strong attention to detail and a proactive work ethic.

· Interest in historical preservation and sustainable gardening practices is a plus.
