EnviroImpact shows daily runoff risk across Michigan using National Weather Service information about precipitation, temperature, soil moisture, and landscape characteristics. EnviroImpact is part of a Regional Runoff Risk Decision Support Tools Network. The goal of the network is to reduce manure nutrient runoff. Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota and Ohio have partnered with several federal agencies and educational institutions to develop these decision-support tools. EnviroImpact is supported through a collaboration of Michigan State University, the Michigan Department of Agricultural and Rural Development, the National Weather Service, and other state agency and industry partners. The runoff forecast is derived from real-time precipitation and temperature forecasts. These data are combined with snow melt, soil moisture and temperature predictions to forecast runoff events. These prediction models were tested and validated using data from edge of field monitoring sites across the region.
