Policy Support for Agricultural Transformation (PolSAT), Malawi

Overview

The objective of the PolSAT project is to support the creation of an enabling policy and regulatory environment for improved investment climate in the agriculture sector in Malawi.  The ultimate goal of the project is to contribute to the agricultural transformation in country through increased agricultural productivity and competitiveness, diversification, commercialization and resilience. PolSAT is embedded in the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA). The project is implemented by Michigan State University with funding from the Agricultural Transformation Initiative (ATI).

Objectives

  • Policy formulation- supporting the MoA in reviewing and aligning the legislation and the various agricultural sub-sector policies and strategies with the National Agriculture Policy (NAP) and National Agriculture Investment Plan (NAIP).
  • Policy communication – facilitate wide dissemination of the new pieces of policy, regulation and legislation to stakeholders. The project is supporting policy making processes aimed at making the process more transparent and inclusive, and disseminating policies aimed at increasing awareness of agricultural sector policies to the wider audience and stakeholders.
  • Capacity strengthening of the Department of Agriculture Planning Services to analyse, interpret, and use evidence for better-informed decisions in the agricultural sectors.

Funding

Policy Support for Agricultural Transformation (PolSAT) is a three-year project funded by the Agricultural Transformation Initiative (ATI) and running from 2019-2021.
