Mindful Self-Compassion

14975 21 Mile Road, Shelby Twp, MI 48315

Tuesday, January 28th 10:00-11:00 AM

Description

Mindfulness can be defined as paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment and non-judgmentally. Research has shown that practicing mindfulness is effective in reducing stress-related symptoms such as worry, depression and physical tension, and may be helpful in managing chronic conditions. Mindfulness for Better Living includes a suite of one-time workshops to help people learn ways to use mindfulness to manage everyday stress.

Self-compassion is the practice of being kind and understanding towards yourself, especially when you're feeling inadequate, have failed, or are suffering. It's a way of relating to yourself that involves compassion instead of self-judgment or comparing yourself to other. When we lack self-compassion, we may find it difficult to be compassionate toward others. However, self-compassion is often viewed as being self-indulgent or selfish. During this session, we will talk about the components and benefits of self-compassion and practice an activity to help you experience what self-compassion feels like.

This is a free class by MSU Extension. To register, please call at (586) 739-7540. Walk ins are welcome, however due to limited seating and ease of hand out printing, registration is highly encouraged.
There may be a small refreshment fee from the Senior Center for refreshments.
