Mapping Manufactured Housing Virtual Workshop
April 28, 2025 12:00PM - 1:30PM
OBJECTIVES:
- Participants will learn about a valuable resource related to manufactured housing.
- Participants will explore, in dialogue, how to use this resource in their work, what would make it more useful, and implications for it related to manufactured housing.
- Participants will also consider what challenges and opportunities exist related to manufactured housing.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
As nearly every community across the country grapples with the availability of affordable housing, some are turning to manufactured housing as a solution, but these “mobile homes” may be more vulnerable to natural disasters. So, knowing where existing parks and subdivisions are can be helpful if not life-saving. It sounds easy, but existing databases have limitations…A new resource will help!
In partnership with MSU’s Urban and Regional Planning Program, the National Charrette Institute (NCI) is pleased to present a webinar-workshop showcasing a new resource for understanding manufactured housing location trends. Join in learning about a new web-based resource that maps manufactured housing across the country and the different types of communities in which manufactured homes are place, and explore how this resource can used in your work.
This webinar-workshop is ideal for staff in state housing development authorities, local or regional governments, planners and designers, community and economic development professionals, Extension educators or anyone who might interface with associated lending practices, eviction risk management, environmental risk exposure, financial literacy, land use, and policy setting work.
During this 1.5-hour webinar-workshop, participants will learn about this new manufactured housing resource, how it was created, what questions and important findings it unearthed and then engage in conversation around the topic of manufactured housing. The webinar-workshop will be held in Zoom and registration is also currently active by Zoom. There is no cost to attend, and it offers 1.5 AICP/CM, AIA/CES, and ASLA/PDH credits.
