eHome America: Homebuyer Education Course (Self-Paced & Online Option)

HUD-certified housing counselors educate potential, current and future home buyers to understand the complex buying process and learn the true costs of responsible home ownership. This four-hour course covers all aspects of selecting, financing and closing on your first home. Participants learn about the ins and outs of this important purchase. Spotting predatory lending and fraudulent practices are also discussed. An educated consumer will be more confident and successful with making important personal and financial decisions about homeownership.

There are two online course formats: self-paced/on-demand, and 4-hour live webinars. After you complete either of these two options, you will receive a certificate of completion to give your loan officer, which is required for MSHDA loans or down payment assistance.

Self-paced, online course option

eHome America: This online, self-paced learning course ($99) walks through the home buying process to help people prepare for home ownership. For some, taking this course can help potential homeowners attain a certificate to be used for down payment assistance programs.  Upon completing the online course you will have a short phone conversation with a MSHDA-certified, HUD-approved Housing Counselor. The certificate is good for one year after completion.

Live webinar/cohort course option

MSU Extension offers four-hour webinars which you can join virtually. You can find them listed in the Events channel at canr.msu.edu/mimoneyhealth/events and click the date that works for you to register. The cost is $25, with income-based scholarships available. To request a scholarship, email the instructor before the class with your county of residence, household annual income and household size. If you qualify, the instructor will email you a coupon code to include in your registration.
